As I\’ve been reading through Acts looking for the names/titles used of Jesus, the following event (Acts 14:8-18) set me thinking. If ever there was a time to explain the ‘Trinity’, i.e. God becoming a man, it was here!
Instead, Paul is appalled at the thought that any comparison to a pagan concept of ‘incarnation’ should be compared to the gospel. He tore his clothes in horror and cried out, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, Who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them…”
We notice that Paul clearly states that God, the living God, is the Creator. Does Paul ever hint that ‘Jesus is God’ or that ‘Jesus is the Creator’? No!
John, in the book of Revelation, maintains the same message
(Revelation 4:11 and 5:9).
It is so important that we understand that God alone is our Creator, and that we are alienated from Him because of our sin – that’s the ‘bad news’. If any reconciliation is to happen between God and us, there will need to be a mediator. The only mediator God accepts is the man that He anointed for the task, i.e. Jesus of Nazareth (1 Timothy 2:5) – that’s the ‘good news’!
