Jesus, God and Peter

Please read this passage about Jesus, God, and Peter. Jesus had asked his disciples about their experience with people whom they encountered. Jesus asked them \”“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they (the disciples ) said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

The passage continues: He (Jesus) said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter replied \”You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Having heard Peter\’s response, Jesus replied \”Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.\”

Can we focus on the above biblical record for just a moment? Did Jesus get it wrong? Do you believe he (Jesus) was being purposely deceptive in his response to Peter? Or, do you believe Jesus was telling the truth? Is it possible that God revealed something to Peter that was in error, false or just a lie? May it never be! If in agreement with the biblical record there is only one conclusion that can be drawn from the conversation. That is, Almighty God, Jesus\’ & Peter\’s God, revealed to Peter that Jesus, was in fact, the Christ! The word \”christ\” means \”messiah\” or the \”anointed one.\” So, we now have God, his anointed son, the Christ (Jesus), and Peter all in agreement that Jesus was the chosen messiah. A very clear, unambiguous, and critical revelation indeed.

For my church friends, is that what you have been taught in your church? The question is rhetorical and I\’m not looking for answers, debates, or arguments. My only point is to get you to consider the above passage and think about just what it is that you believe. Also,I want to encourage and challenge you to seek to find out the \”why\” behind the \”what\” that you believe. Everyone knows WHAT they believe but few have invested the time to understand WHY they believe as they do. Search the scriptures. Shouldn\’t we believe what Jesus, Peter, and God revealed? We all must answer Jesus\’ question to Peter – \”Who do you say that I am?\” I believe this question is the most important question ever asked. And, how we answer has eternal consequences. Blessings.
